Introduction

There are many very good sources of information on the net concerning formation flying , wingman tactics, evasion tactics, etc. that you may want to investigate on your own. The information presented here is meant only as a basic guideline to flying procedures you are expected to understand and use as a pilot in this squadron.

I. Flight Assignments

A. Each pilot is assigned to a 4 aircraft color coded Flight. Each Flight is commanded by a Flight Leader.

B. Each Flight has two elements. Planes # 1 & 2 are paired as an element. Planes # 3 & 4 are the second element. Flight Leader is responsible for coordinating both elements of his Flight with the rest of the squadron. Each pilot is responsible for coordinating with his wingman. Elements should fly a "Loose Duece" or "Floating Rotte" formation. In the event that your wingman is not present for a scheduled flight a replacement will be assigned, or you will be assigned as a replacement in a different flight.

II. Communications Procedures Communications with many pilots flying are always problematic. Please follow proper procedure and keep it short.

III. Pre Flight

A. Hardware : MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT. Don't forget to turn on your joystick, track IR and lucky lava lamp!

B. Ready Room : Take your usual Aircraft number slot if available, DO NOT CLICK FLY until you are sure you will not have to be moved.

C. Load out : Take the RECOMMENDED load out. More or Less fuel or ammo will make it more difficult to fly in formation.

D. Briefing : Make sure you have been briefed (either verbally before mission or by reading the breif in mission, or both). Be aware of planned altitude, heading, speed and purpose of your mission.

IV. Take off

A. Land Base Take off

B. Carrier Base Take off

V. Forming up

VI. Basic Air Combat Maneuvers (ACM) Captured Allied document. This is one of the best and most concise instruction on basic ACM i have found.

VII. Landing Procedures

A. Land Base Landing

B. Carrier Base Landing

VIII. Debriefing: After flying a campaign mission it is important that you debrief. Any claims for kills, intelligence on the enemy, intelligence on targets or infrastructure should be passed on.

A. Verbal Debrief : Verbal debrief to your flight commander Your status (RTB, BAILED FRIENDLY, BAILED HOSTILE, KIA or DISCO disconnected) Aircraft status (AIRCRAFT LOST etc.) Kills (AIRKILLS, GROUND KILLS etc) should be included in that order

B. After Action Report : Written report to your flight commander (note: in SEOW you are requested to file AAR reports IN THE SEOW MAP INTERFACE, these reports are a bit different and are primarily to be used for intelligence gathering and not for scorekeeping purpose. SEOW AARs should be brief and to the point. See your flight leader for more info.)
